- Transcript of an audio recording from Jamal Khashoggi’s murder reportedly describes him gasping for air in his final moments.
- The audio suggests a carefully planned execution, and not an ‘interrogation gone wrong,’ as previously claimed by the Saudis.
- The transcript describes “sawing” and “cutting” that can be heard along with screaming.
- Men in the room were reportedly told to “put earphones in”, or “listen to music” in order to block out the gruesome noises.
Transcript begins as Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul at around 1:15 p.m.
Khashoggi quickly realizes that the situation is strange as he recognizes Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, a prominent aide to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, waiting inside. Mr.Khashoggi asks what he is doing there.
“You are coming back,” Mutreb tells Khashoggi.
“You can’t do that,” Khashoggi responds. “People are waiting outside.”
According to the source, the dialogue ends at this point, and Mr. Khashoggi is heard saying “I can’t breathe,” several times.
