What is Phobos? One of two satellites of Mars, the other being Deimos
Distance from earth: 48.34 million miles
Radius: 7 miles
Discovered in 1877 by American astronomer Asaph Hall
Phobos Monolith: A large rock on the surface of Phobos that stands alone, in a desolate region of the satellite.
“We should visit the moon of Mars. There is a monolith there, a very unusual structure on this little potatoes-shaped object that goes around Mars,” – Buzz Aldrin, former astronaut
“When people find out about that they are going to say, ‘Who put that there? Who put that there?” – Buzz Aldrin
No other planet in the solar system has moons as tiny as Phobos and Deimos.
Astrophysicist Dr. Iosif Samuilovich Shklovsky calculated the orbital motion of Phobos and came to the conclusion that the moon is artificial, hollow, and basically a titanic spaceship.
